๐Ÿ„๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ Boardriders ride on ๐Ÿค™:

๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿค This week, Authentic Brands Group (ABG) finalized its acquisition of Boardriders, the global action sports and lifestyle company that owns a portfolio of powerhouse brands, including Quiksilver, Roxy, and DC Shoes, catering to surf, skate, and snow enthusiasts worldwide.. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, with Bloomberg reporting in early March Authentic would pay $1.3 billion for Boardriders. The deal also includes more than 500 company-owned stores and web stores in 35 countries. This deal brings Boardriders into ABG's impressive lineup of iconic brands, opening up new opportunities for collaboration and growth. Read more here

Letโ€™s take a look back at the wave that started in 1969โ€ฆ

๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ Boardriders' epic ride began in 1969 when Quiksilver was born in Australia, revolutionizing the world of surf fashion with its innovative boardshorts. The company expanded its gnarly wave of success by acquiring Roxy in 1991, bringing its stylish threads and cool vibes to female surfers and outdoor enthusiasts.

๐Ÿ’ฐ๐ŸŒŽ Throughout the '90s and 2000s, Quiksilver (now Boardriders) continued its global takeover by snapping up other brands, like DC Shoes in 2004, and going public on the New York Stock Exchange. But alas, every wave has its trough; the company faced financial struggles and filed for bankruptcy in 2015, or in terms of the viral surfer from Youtube the company dropped in, rode the barrel, and got pitted.

๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ’ต In 2016, investment firm Oaktree Capital Management acquired Boardriders, giving the company a fresh start and setting the stage for its epic comeback. Boardriders surfed back into the game, acquiring surf industry titan Billabong in 2018, and creating a powerhouse portfolio of brands for surf, skate, and snow lovers around the world. Quiksilver, Billabong, Roxy, DC Shoes, RVCA, Element, VonZipper, and Honolua brands with portfolio-wide revenue of approximately $1.7 billion.

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŽฌ ABG's acquisition of Boardriders is backed by a group of star investors, including NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal and Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio, bringing some high-profile attention to the surf and outdoor industry. Learn more

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ”€ Under ABG's ownership, Boardriders is set for a regional break-up as the new owners plan to split the business into three units based on regions: Asia-Pacific, the Americas, and EMEA. This move aims to create a more agile and regionally focused business model, better poised to capitalize on local opportunities. Find out more

๐ŸงŠ๐Ÿ’จThe Ice That Vanished: Arctic's Fifth Smallest Winter Wonderland:

Winter is coming... or is it? The Arctic ice cap's shenanigans continue as this winter witnessed the fifth smallest ice cap on record. But don't go blaming Elsa for this one, folks.

As if we needed more evidence that climate change is so not cool, the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) reveals that the Arctic ice cap is shrinking to new lows. Remember when we used to build snowmen? Yeah, those were the days.

Research now suggests that, as sea ice diminishes, there could be an increased risk of "compound flooding." What's that, you ask? It's a deadly combo of storm surges and heavy precipitation that leads to extreme flooding. In other words, it's the bane of coastal cities' existence.

But it's not just about the ice. Let's take a trip to Brazil, where the town of Atafona is slowly being swallowed by the sea. In the past century, the once-thriving beachfront town has lost 500 homes and 2,000 residents to the encroaching waves.

The Brazilian government has been less than helpful in addressing the situation, leaving locals to their own devices. And by devices, we mean the very real possibility of losing their homes and livelihoods to the sea.

In conclusion, it's safe to say that climate change is not only here to stay but also on a mission to disrupt our lives in ways we never thought possible. So, grab your reusable bags and bike to work, because we need to buckle up and take this fight against climate change seriously. Or else, we might just find ourselves swimming with the fish, and not in a good way. ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ
